How to choose upholstered furniture

While interior design trends and trends change almost daily, there are some details that remain true classics. It's no secret that we can't imagine our homes without upholstered furniture, whether it's a set of sets or a single sofa. But while upholstered furnishings are classics, they are often difficult to choose. This article shares tips that will hopefully help you choose the right soft furnishings.

Internal Furniture Construction

One of the most important criteria when choosing new upholstered furniture is the internal construction of the furniture. These days, with the endless variety of furniture available, it can be difficult to choose the right piece of furniture for you. However, it is useful to remember that the construction of a piece of furniture must remain the most important criterion. A model structure is one made of hardwood, whether it is birch, ash or maple. This type of wood is characterised by the greatest sustainability and durability. It is true that softwoods such as spruce and pine are also suitable for some components, but these are considered to be weaker and of lower quality. Therefore, if the frame of the furniture is made of hardwood, you know that it is a sustainable and high-quality piece of furniture.

It is also important to find out which joints are used to connect the furniture parts. Here are the most popular connections: elastic straps and springs. Furniture that meets modernity guidelines will usually be designed using these elastic straps, which will make the furniture more comfortable. Elastic straps connecting the internal parts of furniture, unlike springs, tend to prevent sounds, deformation and indentations.

Upholstered part

The filling of the furniture itself is also an important detail. Today, the question is often asked: foam or down? Unfortunately, there is no clear-cut answer. If it is filled with down, it will naturally be softer, more comfortable, in other words, something you will want to sink into. On the other hand, such a piece of furniture "settles" quickly and needs constant fluffing. On the contrary, foam furniture will be harder and less comfortable, but will not have the problem of 'settling'.

In the duel between foam and down, family members' allergic reactions to these two materials also play an important role. When choosing furniture, it is advisable to look not only at the strength and durability of the frame, but also at the upholstery - the filling, comfort and allergens.

Upholstery

Once you are satisfied that the internal structure of the furniture is durable and that the joints between the parts are long-lasting, you can move on to the choice of upholstery. It is advisable to decide first whether you want your furniture upholstered in a textile fabric or in genuine leather. This criterion will make it very clear which furniture to look for and reduce unnecessary searching. On the one hand, leather furniture always creates a sense of grace and tranquillity in a home. The warm pastel colours of leather furniture are a true classic. On the other hand, synthetic textiles are on a par with leather in terms of quality and fit. In fact, the denser the textile weave, the more durable the fabric will be, and therefore the more durable the furniture itself.

To make a successful choice of upholstery colour, it's a good idea to borrow a palette of leather or textile fibres to look at when you get home. Often the lighting in the supermarket is very different from the lighting that 'falls' at home, so it is essential to see the fabric in the light in which it will be seen.

Another tip is not to be afraid of bright colours. For a long time, the stereotype has been "no bright furniture in the house!", but this is now outdated. White, cream or beige are so welcome in every home. As if to forestall events, people are trying to protect themselves from possible stains, pet scratches or fading. However, fabrics that are resistant to all of these dangers are widely known today.

Pillows

For soft furnishings, pillows are the icing on the cake: not only do they bring the interior together, but they also provide unparalleled comfort. The only question that often arises is, which pillows to choose? Generally speaking, there are two types of pillows: detachable and stationary. The former are upholstered pillows that ensure cleanliness, as their covers can be washed, replaced and properly maintained. On the other hand, separating pillows can look a bit chaotic. Another option is stationary sofa cushions. They are usually more comfortable than separating cushions and help to maintain the neat appearance of the furniture. Not moving the cushions or washing them ensures the durability and quality of the fabric.
